Elderly Dental Care
As we get older we need to pay more careful attention to the
state of our oral health, as we are more likely to get diseases and
disorders that can affect our teeth.
Teeth start to loosen and eventually fall out unless things such as
cavities or other problems made them fall out earlier.
Most elderly people choose the option of dentures so that they can
still look well and enjoy their favorite dishes as they used to.
However, elderly dental care does not end with dentures. Dentures also
must be looked after properly and cleaned regularly. They also need to
be adjusted from time to time as the gums close or shrink.
If you still have your own teeth it is extremely important to brush
every morning and every evening before bed. Be careful when eating
foods that will put pressure on teeth such as hard fruits and meat, but
instead cut them up into small pieces and eat them slowly. Floss
regularly and use a mouthwash to keep teeth clean and healthy. Elderly
dental care needs to be adhered to religiously as poor dental care can
encourage disease that can affect the whole body.
Pay regular visits to your dentist as they can tell you whether you
have any problems that need to be fixed. There are elderly dental care
plans available and these depend on the age and state of health of the
person. They can be quite expensive but if you shop around you may find
a plan that will suit your needs.
